lesleysmithLesley Smith, one of the leaders of the Bath FM support group, recently won the Bath Volunteer Award for her 23 years of service at the Royal Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath.

Lesley has been a familiar face on the wards of the hospital since 1988, serving tea and meals to patients. She was nominated for the award by staff at the hospital who felt she strongly deserved it.

"I was very surprised to win the award," Lesley said. "I just feel as I am doing what I always do. I enjoy working with people, and have been helping here in various ways for the last 23 years. It has been such an enjoyable experience in such a wonderfully friendly hospital."

As well as serving tea and meals Lesley has been instrumental at the hospital for getting fibromyalgia recognised and treated more effectively. Never afraid to take a rheumatology consultant to task, she has pushed over the years for recognition and better treatment which has resulted in pain management courses more aptly designed for fibromyalgia and a greater understanding of the condition.
