Appointment of Des Quinn as Trustee

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Des QuinnThe Trustees of FMA UK are delighted to announce that Des Quinn has accepted our invitation to join the Board of Trustees. We are sure that his energy and enthusiasm will help take the work of FMA UK forward.

Des started helping FMA UK in 2006 by taking on the development of our website from the tremendous job that trustee, Jean Turner, had done prior to that.   Since then, he has designed and implemented a completely new website for FMA UK.  With the addition of our forums to our website which have proved extremely popular, fibromyalgia sufferers from all over the UK and beyond are interacting as a virtual support group.

At the time of writing there are over 4,000 registered members on the forum and nearly a quarter of a million posts.

Des has also got involved with other areas of FMA UK, tirelessly promoting our cause.  Most recently, Des was a key person in organising a lecture from the renowned Dr Jacob Teitelbaum in Glasgow.  Over 500 people turned up to see Dr Teitelbaum, and it was standing room only. Dr Teitelbaum spoke for about 90 minutes and answered questions for a further 90 minutes.

Des has also been instrumental in expanding our range of merchandise.  Using the population of the forum, Des has assessed demand in various areas.  As a result of this we are now selling awareness bracelets and we will also shortly be selling green –friendly shopping bags promoting awareness of fibromyalgia.  These can all be bought from our online shop here. Des will continue to work on the website, as well as supporting online volunteers.

Commenting on his appointment Des said  "I am very pleased to accept this role and I intend to continue to help raise awareness through all methods possible. I see my background in technology helping to improve existing charity functions and brining new ideas to fruition.”

Des runs a small IT company that helps businesses with their technical requirements from websites to networking their computers. He also has the day to day challenge of dealing with his own fibromyalgia and trying as best as he can to achieve the best work-life balance possible.
