Other information
As a long-time advocate for fibromyalgia awareness, I was diagnosed with the condition in the summer of 2005 and almost immediately, I began volunteering with FMA UK. My involvement with the charity deepened in August 2008 when I was appointed as a trustee, a role that followed my initial contribution as an advisor to the board. As Chair of FMA UK, my primary responsibility is to strike a balance between setting long-term strategic goals and ensuring the seamless day-to-day operation of the charity.
I am passionate about promoting effective communication and harnessing various channels to raise awareness about fibromyalgia. By doing so, I aim to empower individuals affected by the condition and foster a sense of community.
Outside of my work with FMA UK, I run a small IT company that provides technical support and business process management solutions to businesses. On a personal level, I navigate the daily challenges of living with fibromyalgia, striving to maintain a healthy work-life balance. I am grateful for the love and support of my partner, Fiona, and our son, Lewis, who brings joy and energy to my life.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my involvement with FMA UK is witnessing the positive impact it has on people's lives. I have had the privilege of being present at support groups and seeing individuals receive their first bits of information, which often leads to a profound moment of affirmation – the realisation that they are not alone in their journey with fibromyalgia. While we have made significant strides in raising awareness over the years, I firmly believe that there is still much work to be done to ensure that everyone affected by this chronic condition receives the support and understanding they deserve.
