Jon swims from Europe to Asia for FMA UK

Jon Moreau is going to be swimming the Hellespont, a strait of water between Europe and Asia, to raise funds for FMA UK. Jon told us:

This is the culmination of 3 years for me after a somewhat rash wager to swim the Hellespont before I was fifty!!  So here we go, not sure I'm ready but this is it!!

The Hellespont is one of the world's  most iconic swims, made so by the Greek tragedy that is the story of Hero and Leander.   It was made more so by the fact that it was swum by Lord Byron after a number of failed attempts in 1810, to prove that it could be done and the Greek story was true.

The swim is 4.5 km and across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world which is shut for just 1.5 hours for this race!!

What a fantastic challenge.  We wish Jon all the best with his training and the swim.  If you would like to sponsor Jon please visit his Just Giving page.

We are always amazed the lengths people go to help support us by raising money doing tremendous challenges such as this or being inventive with their own capabilities and having heads shaved or asking for donations instead of presents for their anniversary.

Just Giving is suggesting a 30 day challenge and has suggestions that anyone can do and get benefit from themselves as well as raising money.  See https://www.justgiving.com/en/30-day-challenge for their ideas or adapt them to suit your situation.  If a group of you do it together the competition can add to the gains.

Let us know what you are planning so we can publicise it and your idea might catch on with others
